Saddest memory!!!!!

Tears dropped, eyes swollen and nothing being heard except the roaring echoes of sadness through out the night. It was a tragic night and the saddest night ever for my family. My whole family were home including my aunties and uncles because my grandma was sick.
My mum and dad and we children were getting ready to go to church because my parents were involved in a very important meeting. My mom got dressed; I was outside waited for everyone to be ready when I heard my auntie screamed. We rushed upstairs and found my poor nana on the floor.
Nana was rushed to the hospital and we were on our way to church. It wasn’t long before the phone rang. I could hear the echo of my auntie’s voice from the other side and immediately I knew it was my nana. Tears poured out of my mum’s face.
We rushed to the hospital. I felt like I got butterflies circled inside my stomach. We got there and out we ran like a marathon race. Finally we reached the emergency room and there she was laid beautifully on her bed. She was rested there all night. Everyone was poured their heart out because they had lost their mother, and my loving grandmother.
It was a long sad night to everyone. I will never forget that night.

Class Report, Term 3 2010!!!!!

These subjects listed below are the subjects we have been learning in class:
• Unit Studies
• Reading
• Language Skills
• Draft Writing
• Maths
Unit Studies:
In Unit Studies room6 has been learning about disasters and what to do in a crisis or how to prepare for a crisis, our class has been enjoying learning about how to survive in a disaster.

Reading:
Room6 has been learning how to make 3D projects and our top reading group has completed this task, the 3D projects came out prefect and beautiful. The other reading groups have been learning about prediction reading and guided reading.

Language skills:
For language skills, we have been learning about word classes, and we have been going to Te Reo Maori and learning how to ask questions in Maori. It has been very interesting in Te Reo Maori we have been working well together and trying to understand the questions.

Draft writing:
Room6 has been learning how to write a cameo and explanation piece of writings, it has been a very interesting term and really fun too because we were able to make up simple poems, explanation and procedural writing. The chocolate cake demonstration was the best one because we were able to see it step by step which makes it easier for us to write it in no time.

Maths:
In maths, room6 has been learning how to do long equations and how to find the answers to the equations, it was a struggle at first but we can work the answers out now physically and sometimes mentally.
Statement overall: Over all room6 has been achieving their goals and improving in their classroom works and we just need to focus a little bit more on our attitudes.

My friend!!!

She is a person that tells the truth even though it hurts and sometimes annoying. She dreams about things in life thinking it will occur just like that. It’s hard for me to stay away from her even though she drives me crazy at times. She is loud, cheerful and very chatty but she is a friend that I like to hang around with.

"My Role Model"

My role model is my dad. I chose my dad because he is a caring and loving father. He takes very good care of me when I’m very sick. He works really hard to provide us with our necessities. My dad is cool because he is trying his best to make my life better than what he had. He encourages me to try my best in everything I do. He tries his hardest to be a good dad to us. I thank God for my dad and also my dad for being the man he is today. I think he is doing a magnificent job being my father.

Career Expo!!!!!

A week ago, the year 8s got the opportunity to go to the Careers Expo at ASB show grounds. We all had the chance to view different career displays which might help us to set a target or pathway for our bright future ahead of us.
When we got there, most people were gathered around at the displays of their choice and found out what’s out there that they could do in the future.
It was really a great day and an awesome opportunity for me because it opens up my eyes to a wider variety of careers which I didn’t even think about such as police, air hostess and the army. My mind is set on those three careers. The hosts were awesome because they were answered any questions that we had asked.

Marae

A marae is a sacred place.

The marae, is a sacred open meeting area. It is the communal meeting house, the area with the greatest mana; and the place where Maori customs are given ultimate expression.
The marae is the turanga-waewae of the Maori. It is the hub of traditional Maori community life. It is where their customs and tikanga are taught. It is used for functions like: celebrations, weddings, christenings, tribal reunions and funerals.
A marae is a sacred place which served both religious and social purposes in Maori traditions.

Women are better Leader than men!

I believe that women are better leader than men. Firstly, women take on more responsibilities than men. Secondly they are more organising and last but not the least, women are stronger than men.
First of all, women take on more responsibilities than men. They look after the kids; do the cooking and some other house works. They involved in a lot of other activities such as church committees, school partnership with families. In most of our family functions, women are doing all the jobs and men are sitting around a circle drinking kava or involving in a deep conversation.
Secondly they are more organising than men because they iron the uniforms, making lunches and prepare everything the night before. They wake up early in the morning making sure the house is clean and tidy, prepare breakfast for children and also get themselves ready for work like my Mom. They check everything and make a list before going to do the shopping or they will give the list to someone else to do the shopping.
Lastly women are stronger than men because they carry babies for nine months and go through painful labor and who knows for how long. But still going to work and carry on with other house routines every day. So I strongly believe that women are better leader than men.

Should we sell lollies at the school canteen??

I believe that selling lollies in a school canteen is not right and should not happen at all.

First of all, the Ministry of Health and Education will not approve of this; secondly, lollies aren’t healthy at all. And lastly, lollies can be very addictive.

In my opinion, I say that selling lollies in a school canteen is not right because...well, when the Ministry of Health and Education find out about this, they wouldn’t like this at all! Because it’s not suitable for children in school and if kids think that they can eat lollies in school, they, that means that they would probably think that, if they can eat them at school, they can eat them everyday, all the time!
Lollies might just ruin a school’s reputation...just by a small delicious product!

Lollies are scrumptious right? I mean who wouldn’t want to eat lollies? I know, that’s exactly my point, but it’s not good when you eat lollies everyday. But it’s okay to eat them occasionally. If you eat lollies about everyday, well all you will get out of it is basically plain, old NOTHING!!! You might even put on weight as for lollies have a huge amount of sugar, you’ll get lazy, you will easily get tired and especially your life will completely change if you have an unhealthy lifestyle!
Don’t sell lollies at a school canteen; it’ll become your exact normal lifestyle!

Finally, in lollies there’s something sweet in it...that’s right, it’s SUGAR! Now, I think that you’re probably thinking what’s “sugar” got to do with this? Well, this is why! Sugar is almost in every food, even in fruit, but that’s “natural” sugar. Any who, here’s what I’m trying to say, sugar is hard to resist. That’s why it’s so addictive! Lollies can be delicious and all but if you think about how addictive it is, you might eat the whole lolly and want more and more! If this carries on, there will be a moment where kids eat so many lollies that they get diabetes or sicknesses if they do this for the rest of your life!
This is my point, when you eat lollies from a school canteen, children seem to think that it’s okay to eat them eat them everyday! This could lead to serious sicknesses!
To sum up my point, I still believe that lollies shouldn’t be sold in a school canteen, because it is unhealthy. Remember, as they always say “Life is too short!”

Open Girls Rugby

Report about rugby tournament...

It was an exciting and nervous day for the open grade rugby girls. We had a rugby tournament at Lloyd Elsmore Park. When we got there our hearts were beating like drums. When we got out of the van it all changed. We looked at the other teams and they didn’t even look as scary as we thought they would be.
Than Mo came with the bad news he told us that we weren’t allowed to play there because the fields were closed. We didn’t let that get us down.
Then the principal of Pt England School- Mr Burt came and asked if we would like to play at Pt England School.
YES- we all screamed with joy!!
We travelled to Pt England School. The first school we played was Pt England Open Grade girls we WASTED THEM!!!!!! . Mounga scored our first try of the day.
It was a very easy game Mounga was our star player.
Next we played Viscount that was a good challenge for us but unfortunately we lost that game. We want to assure you that it was actually a good game.
We would like to give a huge thank you to our supporters and Mr Samson and Mrs Tafea - THANK YOU

...Happiness...

Learning Intention: To use different word classes to paint a picture.
Success Criteria: To use nouns and adjectives in our cameo writing.

Happiness brings joy to life, it makes us bright and filled with delight.
It’s enjoyable, laughable, and even loveable too; for as long as you’re happy, you’ll always be true.
Happiness is such a motive word that’ll always be true; because it will always be bringing such pleasantness to you.
To me, happiness is something so bold because, you know what, it’s as precious as gold!

...Sadness...

Feeling the struggle of pain, trusting myself not to burst out in tears.
Having to see the sadness just drifts me away from everything.
Looking back on such dedicated moments.
Reminds me of the good life that I had...now that isn’t so true.
Holding on to the moments is hard and now I have to set myself free and let those moments go.
It’s time to move on ... it’s time to live a good life again.

...My worst fear...

My eyes melted out tears, my heart was beating so strongly.
Lost in my head, and didn’t know what to do.
I couldn’t take it; but it wasn’t easy to forget...
My brain was bubbling with thoughts...it felt so wrong, but it seemed so true.
That was a moment that I will never forget which holds my mind and I hope it won’t occur ever again.
Because it was so rough it felt like my heart had stopped, my eyes were pouring out. I could not hold it together and forgetting that I was in a classroom full of eyes whom were staring at me. Just one big moment...

.......She's gone for too long.....

Feeling diagnosed with a mixture of joy and sadness, tears pouring down my cheeks as I remembered my nana’s loving face smiling at me. Nervracking and as scared as I can ever be, standing in front of everyone made it really hard for me to share the most memorable time that I had with my nana in my life. I visualized my nana saying to me “I’m proud of you moko” which made me cried harder. I heard Mum said “come on you can do it” I knew I could do it, but I just can not get myself to do it. I kept hearing my nana’s voice saying “I’m proud of you moko” made me felt weaker and weaker. My mum started to read my letter but I did not like the way she read it so I took the paper off her and started reading it all over again. Snivelling like a baby as I carried on reading because it felt like it just happened yesterday. I felt like I wanted to scream so Nana can hear me and may be awaken and wiped the tears off my face. It has been too long since I heard her voice. But I managed to compose myself more as I kept reading. I know Nana is watching over me now and I know that she is really proud of me. “Love you Nana”.

PS. Check out Leander's work from Year 6
